HANK'S
THE BRAND

Hank’s is a neighborhood restaurant, bar and café located in the Windsor neighborhood of Austin, Texas. The space itself is over 8,500 square feet, and was formerly a grocery store. Hank’s is named after the owner’s grandfather—a competitive lindy hop dancer with a love for food, fun, and his show horse, Queen B.

Services

Jones Studio was the lead on this project. I was brought in to assist with a few specific elements.

- Print Design
- Packaging
- Signage

All of the materials designed for Hank’s are inspired by grandpa Hank himself. He dressed casually, and was a fan of warm wood tones and cheeky touches, so the space is infused with that playful energy. The logo, an inviting handwritten typeface that expresses a certain homespun charm, serves as an anchor for the restaurant’s brand identity.

For the rest of the space’s printed materials, there are a series of hand-drawn doodles that feature Hank doing what he did best: riding Queen B and lindy hop dancing in his signature striped shirt. These drawings are featured on business cards, gift cards, and other signage throughout the space. A cheerful mid-century palette of greens, oranges and creamy neutrals are used for the print collateral as well as the interior design to exude a sense of nostalgia without being overtly retro or too masculine.
